method

Hypothesis: Do the ingredients of nail polish effect how long it lasts for?
Method:

1. Apply one layer of four different types of a particular coloured nail polish onto aluminum foil.
2. Time how long it takes for each type to dry onto the foil.
3. Record observations and results.
3. Rub rough sandpaper against the nail polish and observe the durability of the nail polish.
4. Record observations and results.

My independent variable would be the nail polish's ingredients. The dependent variable would be the duration of the nail polish applied.

AND THE NAIL POLISH...

Will not be carried out on my nails.

I just think that putting the nail polish onto my nails will not make sure that they are in the right conditions for a fair experiment. And also, I do not want to get told off and get another demerit. --" I also need to keep all of the different polishes under control with room temperature at the same pace and all.

So, instead of my nails, I'm going to apply one layer of FOUR different brands of a pink, I have no chosen out yet, onto some aluminium foil taped onto the table. I will time how long it takes to dry and then, I will rub sandpaper onto it, and see the durability of the nail polishes.

But...where can I get sandpaper?

and..is it okay for the nail polish to have different shades of pink? Because all of them are pink, but some are darker.

so...about nail polish

I'm thinking of how to make sure this experiment can be tested. I'm considering testing...Yeah...so...

  • Do the ingredients of nail polish effect how long it lasts for? (Also including how long it takes for it to dry, hardness, abrasion resistance...)
I'd do this by testing out several different brands and types of the same colour...but then, I'm not sure because there are different shades. Hm...would colour affect this? Ah this is confusing.

Anyway, I found information about nail polish here:
http://www.enotes.com/how-products-encyclopedia/nail-polish
and the experiment:

And I'm also thinking about if base colours would affect how long the nail polish stays and also many layers of nail polish?

ideas so far

I've been brainstorming with ideas so far and I've come up with three that I'm interested in doing:

1. Find the best way to store digital photos printed from your computer.
2. Nail polish strengths
3. Finding out if music would affect the growth of plants

I think I'd be most interested in doing nail polish strengths. Although, I've had many bad experiences with nail polish in the past...
