scrap this
Scrap the idea of using silver nail polish.
So I did my trial 1# again. I have no idea how I'm going to present this in a graph or chart thingo, but I'll see. Also, my stupid camera is just so stupid that even if I turn flash off, it still flashes. ALSOOOO I will keep the results of the duration of the drying time of the nail polish only from the old experiment. I might cancel it out later on though.
NEW TRIAL 2#
1. BYS Nail Enamel "Pink Surprise"
Time taken: 4:57.1
Description: this nail polish contains toluene and formaldehyde. It has a VERY strong smell as it was stated in my research before.
Number of rubs till damage: 3 rubs (smudged off, polish rubbed everywhere, foil ripped)
2. Jordana Nail Polish True Red 77
Time taken: 2:36
Description: this nail polish does not contain toluene and formaldehyde. I realised I applied one layer but it was thicker than the other polishes. This could have affected the drying time.
Number of rubs till damage: 4 rubs (Scraped. scratched foil)
3. Oulijia Nail Art
Time taken: 10:40:6
Description: this nail polish does not contain toluene and formaldehyde. It was very watery possibly because it was unopened for ages. Very sticky.
Number of rubs till damage: 1 rub (rubbed off)
4. BYS Nail Enamel "Cherry Bomb"
Time taken: 4:41.2
Description: this nail polish contains toluene and formaldehyde. One layer was applied but it was a very thick amount.
Number of rubs till damage: 5 rubs (scraped off, scratched foil)
ERROR:
The foil keeps ripping :(
Timing was not exactly perfect.
Different amounts of pressure on sandpaper again.
PHOTOS COMING SOON
Changing method...again.
I'm changing my whole method again and basically forgetting about trial 1# for a much more exact conclusion and result. I'm also carrying out a few trials today.
Method:
1. Tape aluminium foil onto a flat surface in room temperature (25°C)
2. Apply one layer of one nail polish containing toluene and formaldehyde onto the aluminium foil.
3. Time the duration for the polish to dry onto the foil.
4. Use a Q-Tip to check if the nail polish is completely dry
5. Record observations and results.
6. Cut out abrasive paper in a 3.5cm x 3.5cm square.
7. Tape abrasive paper against a block of wood.
8. Rub the abrasive paper against the foil once
9. Repeat Step 8 until nail polish begins to peel or chip.
10. Calculate how many strokes it took for polish to show signs of chipping.
11. Observe the resistance and durability and record results.
12. Repeat steps 2-11 using the three other types of nail polish.
Changes to the method + photos of trial 1
I decided to edit the method a bit so it makes more sense and fits with trial 1. I will be doing trial 2 and 3 very soon. :D
Method:
8. Rub the abrasive paper against the foil
9. Observe the resistance until it begins to peel or chip and record results.
10. Repeat steps 6-7 two more times onto the same nail polish.
11. Repeat steps 2-10 using the three other types of nail polish.
